1. What inspired you to write your book and how did the idea come to life?
By publishing with Gatekeeper Press, I hope to share my stories with others and profit from my passion for writing. Publishing allows me to reach a wider audience than just storytelling at events and programs.
2. Can you share your initial goals for publishing your book?
I want people to read my novels, to feel the pain and triumph of my characters, to discover something new about themselves and the world around them.
3. What made you choose Gatekeeper Press as your publishing partner? How did the experience meet or exceed your expectations?
I chose Gatekeeper Press based on a friend’s recommendation. After researching and reading other testimonials, I knew that Gatekeeper was right for me too. This is my second time publishing with Gatekeeper Press. I love collaborating with the staff and receiving their feedback, support, and knowledge. Gatekeeper continues to exceed my expectations.
4. How would you describe the process of working with Gatekeeper Press, from manuscript submission to publication?
It was a seamless process that was exceptionally planned out. They ensure that the author knows exactly where they are in the process and what steps remain. I appreciated how the various components of publishing clicked into place to create an incredible product.
5. What challenges did you encounter during your publishing journey, and how did Gatekeeper press assist in overcoming them?
I expressed my concern over the page count and formatting to my author manager. The author manager shared my concerns with staff and the problem was immediately fixed.
6. Were there any aspects of the publishing process that surprised you or differed from what you initially expected?
I was initially surprised at all the steps publishing entails, but the end product exceeded my expectations. I discovered those steps are necessary to publish a quality product. I don’t know if other publishing companies dedicate as much time and energy into publishing a quality product.
7. How do you hope readers will receive your book, and what do you hope readers will retain from it?
I hope readers enjoy the story and discover something new about themselves and the world around them. I also hope we all learn to be more empathetic to people dealing with grief, depression, and memory problems.
8. What was your favorite part of the publishing experience with Gatekeeper Press?
I enjoyed collaborating with staff and my author manager. It felt like I had an entire team (which I did) working with me to create a beautiful product. I appreciated their unique skills and talents.
9. Would you recommend Gatekeeper Press to other authors? Why or why not?
I would recommend Gatekeeper Press to other authors who want to put forth a quality product. If you care about your novel, if you want it to look the best, then Gatekeeper Press is right for you!
10. What advice would you give to aspiring authors considering self-publishing their work?
Independently publishing your novel allows you to have more control over the final product. Using Gatekeeper Press ensures the product is of high quality. I queried agents for years regarding publishing, but most asked me what I had previously published and how would I promote my novel. It made me wonder how an agent actually helps you. Gatekeeper Press removes the middleman—the agent—and instead, I was able to work with staff who actually cared about my novel and what I had to say.
