Terms of Service and Author Bill of Rights

Your decision to work with Gatekeeper Press constitutes your acceptance of our terms.
Gatekeeper Press is a publishing service provider offering the services listed on our Pricing page. The prices for these services may be amended from time to time.

IN ORDER TO RECEIVE UPDATES ABOUT OUR SERVICES, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR LOGGING INTO OUR AUTHOR DASHBOARD PERIODICALLY, KEEPING A VALID MAILING ADDRESS ON FILE, AND REMAINING SUBSCRIBED TO OUR MAILING LIST WITH A VALID EMAIL ADDRESS.

A) Author Rights and Obligations

As an author with Gatekeeper Press, you will:

  1. Be assigned an Author Manager as your one-to-one point of contact until 30 days after publication. All subsequent communications will be through our Post-Publication Support form.
  2. Retain 100% of the rights to your material and any ISBNs we assign to it. This includes all files we create for you once payment has been made in full.
  3. Have 100% control over the file-creation process.
  4. Receive 100% of the royalties earned on the sale of your material. You can see how print royalties are calculated here and eBook royalties here.
  5. Be entitled to distribution via our worldwide distribution network (“Distribution Partners”).
  6. Have access to monthly sales reports in your Author Dashboard generated directly from each of our Distribution Partners
  7. Have the ability to order your book at its Author Copy Cost and have it shipped to destinations worldwide. Orders cannot be canceled once placed.
  8. Have assurance we will never share your manuscript or other intellectual property with any third parties, other than our Distribution Partners, or to promote your book through social media.
  9. Warrant to us you own or control the necessary rights to your material and will indemnify us for any costs connected with any claim inconsistent with this warranty, and/or any other claims that may arise from the publication of your material.
  10. Reimburse us for any outstanding balance due to book returns within 30 days of receiving notice in accordance with our Returns Policy.
  11. If you are paying for services by installment, those payments will be automatically drawn on the same day each month until paid in full. We reserve the right to suspend your book’s distribution with notice to you for failure to make timely installment payments.
  12. Have the right to withdraw your material from sale with us at any time for any reason.
  13. Be entitled to a satisfaction guarantee on all file-creation services (editing and marketing services excluded). If you are not 100% satisfied with the files we create for you, we will work with you until you are or give you your money back.
    1. Your approval of files is considered an acknowledgment of satisfaction, including your approval of any front cover designs, sample layouts, and/or illustration sketches.
    2. No refunds will be provided after 120 days of signup date.

B) Author Code of Conduct

When working with Gatekeeper Press, you agree to:

  1. Be respectful and professional in all communications.
  2. Not engage in abusive, harmful, or offensive language.
  3. Consolidate emails whenever possible.
  4. Designate a single spokesperson if your project has multiple contributors.
  5. Abide by our production timelines and understand your responsiveness, the complexity of your project, and any special requests may affect these timelines.
  6. Abide by our communication timelines:
    1. It can take 1-2 business days for your Author Manager to respond to your emails.
    2. It can take 1-3 business days for our Post-Publication Support Team to respond to your emails.
    3. For Premium Authors: Phone calls with your Author Manager are scheduled by appointment only.

C) Gatekeeper Press’ Rights and Obligations

  1. We reserve the right to refuse any manuscript and/or remove from distribution any book that:
    1. Expresses hate or encourages violence towards a person or group based on something such as race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation.
    2. Is involved in any type of legal dispute with a third party.
    3. Otherwise jeopardizes our brand in our sole discretion.
  2. We reserve the right to terminate our relationship with you for violations of our Author Code of Conduct. In the event of termination, all files will be returned to you in accordance with Paragraph A(2) above, and you will not be precluded from republishing.
  3. We reserve the right to set-off any balance due to us against your royalties. If, after applying the set-off, an amount is still due to us, we reserve the right to recover that amount.
  4. Our distribution service has been rendered once we have made available and delivered your material to our Distribution Partners. If your material is rejected, delayed, or displayed incorrectly by any Partner for any reason, Gatekeeper Press will have no liability to you.
  5. Our Author Copy service has been rendered once your books have been delivered to a reputable mail carrier. If your books are lost, damaged, delayed during transit, and/or delivered outside of our estimated delivery timelines, Gatekeeper Press will have no liability to you. If your books were printed with manufacturing defects, we will refund or replace the defective books in accordance with our Policy on Defective Copies.
  6. We will provide notice via email and/or your Author Dashboard of any print cost increases or other changes emanating from Distribution and Printing partners. Gatekeeper Press works with third-party manufacturers to fulfill print-on-demand orders, and we have no control over changes they or our Distribution Partners may implement from time to time. Our Authors always receive 100% of their royalties.
  7. We reserve the right to modify this Agreement with notice to you in your Author Dashboard and/or via email.

D) Additional Considerations:

  1. US taxpayers that receive more than $10 in royalties in a calendar year will be mailed a 1099-MISC Form by January 31 of the year following the reporting period.
  2. Any claims arising out of or relating to our Terms of Service shall be brought in a state court of competent jurisdiction in Florida. You consent to the personal jurisdiction of the state courts of competent jurisdiction in Florida.
  3. In the event of any claims arising out of or relating to this Agreement, the prevailing party has the right to collect reasonable costs and attorneys’ fees incurred in enforcing this Agreement.
