Agents of Karma: Debt to Pay

1. What inspired you to begin your publishing journey?

I wanted to share my stories with others. It makes me happy imagining someone is getting enjoyment out of something I created.

2. What led you to choose the self-publishing route vs. traditional publishing?

I wanted to have freedom to work at my own pace. I didn’t want to sacrifice the quality of my writing trying to keep up with the demands of someone else.

3. How did you select Gatekeeper Press as your publishing family?

I heard Gatekeeper was good for self publishing and decided to try it. I felt that they could deliver my story with good quality at a reasonable rate.

4. Were there any moments during your publishing journey where your expectations differed from the actual process?

There was much more editing done than I expected. My editors were very thorough in finding any mistakes in my initial draft and perfecting the format.

5. What aspects of the process did you find most enjoyable?

Seeing how my editors, my first readers, reacted to my writing. Alongside their edits they left comments on parts they enjoyed, and I was excited to hear it.

6. What challenges did you encounter during your publishing journey?

Finding suitable edits for more complicated parts of my story. It is always difficult rewriting something you already put so much effort into the first time, but it is always worth it for the final product.

7. Would you change anything if you could do it all over again?

If I could do it again… I’d have paid for advertising sooner. At the time of my publication, I was unaware of how difficult it was to sell a self published book on my own.

8. What were the most surprising aspects of self-publishing with Gatekeeper Press?

How quickly and efficiently the work was done. After they had received my first draft, they quickly returned with the edited version for me to oversee.

9. Would you recommend fellow authors self-publish with Gatekeeper Press?

I would recommend others interested in self publishing to use Gatekeeper. They do a very thorough job and take care of everything from editing, to cover design, to publication.

10. With your dream book a reality, what goals do you aspire to achieve with your story?

All I want for my story is for it to be enjoyed. It makes me very happy to see people laughing at my jokes and relating to my characters.
