Confessions of a Crazed Tour Guide

1. What inspired you to begin your publishing journey?

Through the years as a tour guide I had collected a number of stories.  Each one happened to me and I felt compelled to write them down.  At this point I decided to write a book formalizing the details of each event. I realized many were humorous and I could use that as a starting point. Everyone loves a funny story that, in some cases, is too crazy to be believed.

2. What led you to choose the self-publishing route vs. traditional publishing?

Once the book was finished, the chance of reaching a traditional publishing company seemed very slim.  After speaking with Peyton Hoffman I realized that utilizing a company like Gatekeepers was perfect for me.

3. How did you select Gatekeeper Press as your publishing family?

My family member, Peyton Hoffman, had published her book with Gatekeepers and she recommended Gatekeepers to me.

4. Were there any moments during your publishing journey where your expectations differed from the actual process?

I would have to say that the amount of editing and the detail was a surprise, but I am so thankful for all the help in making the book the best it can be.

5. What aspects of the process did you find most enjoyable?

I was thankful for the positive feedback and the prompt response from Katie and the whole staff.

6. What challenges did you encounter during your publishing journey?

I would have to say that the initial edits were the biggest challenge.  It was difficult to review the material several times and not miss anything that needed to be corrected.  I am thankful for professionals who guided me through the process.

7. Would you change anything if you could do it all over again?

No, I really do not think I would change anything.  It is all a learning experience that I will take with me if I ever decide to do this again.

8. What were the most surprising aspects of self-publishing with Gatekeeper Press?

The many people who were there to help me with every step in the process.  Everyone was so professional. At each step Katie contacted me almost daily and was very reassuring.  The illustrator was awesome and worked with me until I was happy with the cover. Luis has been most helpful in publicizing the book.

9. Would you recommend fellow authors self-publish with Gatekeeper Press?

I would definitely recommend Gatekeepers to anyone who asks.

10. With your dream book a reality, what goals do you aspire to achieve with your story?

I hope to make it available to as many people as possible. It is my expectation that people will be drawn to the book and want to read it! I also hope that others will see the fun, enjoyment and challenges of being a tour guide. Making the best use of social media will make that happen.
