I have been blown away by my experience with Gatekeeper Press. Truly. I am a first time author and want to do everything that I can to make my book look professional and get it out there. I was warned by many to be weary of self publishing companies. But Gatekeeper has assisted me with everything I could possibly need–and if they could not, they have told me how and where to get help. I am wholly satisfied with my experience at Gatekeeper Press. It was the unedited letters of Private Alonzo D. Bump, 77th New York State Volunteer Infantry that served during the Civil War. The editing was an extensive process due to his phonetic spelling whereby Bump frequently spelled the same word two to four different ways. I was frustrated at times with the process and readily expressed it to Kelly. She was patient and more than helpful. Now I am working on a second edition of a regimental history of the 77th New York Infantry [McKean’s Sunday School Boys go to War] and look forward to again working with Kelly and Gatekeeper Press.
As a first time author unbaptized in the art of book publishing I didn’t know where to turn. After some investigation, I did call Gatekeeper (among others), and spoke to Tony. Their motto is ‘we treat our authors like family,’ and that’s how he treated me on the phone that first contact. My book, called Sacrificing America’s Women, is over 600 pages and while it took some doing (mostly because of my inexperience) Rob the CEO captained the ship, and I am extremely pleased with the totality of the outcome. If you ever see the dust cover I hope you’ll agree it’s one of the most captivating you’ll ever encounter. I learned much on how to prepare and present my manuscript which will help them in the future with Sacrificing America’s Women II. After initially having a traditional book publisher that fell through, I decided to self publish. I was extremely intimidated by all of the steps that seem to be involved in self-publishing. With there being as many self-publishers as there are, and it not always being so easy to discern the reputable ones from the ill-reputable, I can highly recommend Gatekeeper Press based on my experience with this publisher. I arrived at GP through a process of elimination and finally chose it (over my remaining potential choices) because of GP’s high level of transparency about its self-publishing services (on its website and during consultation), this transparency being what I believe to be initially the most important factor in choosing a publisher for the novice author. Also, I appreciated the à la carte option of their services and consequently not being pressured into purchasing a package deal.
After this, my interactions with GP were through my assigned manager Kelly Santaguida who was excellently professional and very expedient in answering all my emails, questions, and concerns. She was also very patient with me, a factor I can’t stress enough, and in her explanations. I’m confident that all of GP’s managers are excellent (and I did briefly communicate with another manager who was also nice and very quick in helping me) but feel especially lucky to have had Kelly assigned to me. Even after the publication of my book, She has still been very helpful with correcting/updating the book’s metadata.
Finding a self-publisher for one’s book can be stressful, not to mention intimidating if one’s a novice to the industry. Although each author’s needs can be different, I think if one’s research is done correctly, Gatekeeper Press will be in one’s Top 5 self-publishers to consider for one’s book.

I just finished my fictional novel/screenplay, The Last Phone Booth on the Left in Brooklyn, about an elderly Italian lady who goes to organized crime for help-and gets it. And the cover is fantastic. Although there is a beautiful love story in the book, it has no graphic sex or profanity, and therefore I wanted an engaging cover, but one where everyone had their clothes on. LOL. I think the artist did a great job combining mystery, romance and history to really depict what would be in the book. Thanks Gatekeeper Press! Would recommend you to anyone.

Pricing was more than reasonable (my author discount allows me to purchase copies for family and friends to use as gifts at a decent price). I made the mistake of using another company one time in the past and had to deal with the disappointment of seeing all my print-on-demand sources disappear when it went out of business. I just received my first copies of 1777 – Danbury on Fire! I am fully pleased with the quality of production and the speed and responsive attitude of this publisher. I’m a lifelong writer but never published a book before. I thought it was the time in my life to produce some of my lifetime’s thoughts in looking back at some very important traditions of our Senior Generation. I was on a vent for 3 months and in the hospital for 99 days. I was about as green as they come when it came to knowing anything about book publishing. Several months into working on my first novel, I began to do some research about self-publishing. The information and advice was vast and daunting that I almost allowed myself to be pressured into a contract with a self-publishing company whose link was popping up everywhere. It didn’t feel right and I went with my gut. After hiring a consultant to help me sift through my overload of information, I came away well-armed with a wealth of knowledge on how to avoid being eaten by one of the self-publishing sharks like the one that almost had me. I saw a positive story in the consultant’s newsletter about a hybrid publisher, Gatekeeper Press, who was making news.
I took Gatekeeper Press up on their offer of a free consultation but not before I had a well thought-out script of questions that would surely eliminate them if they resembled anything like the one I had dealt with previously. And they didn’t. From my first conversation with Author manager, Rob Price of Gatekeeper Press, I felt I had found a company that would shoot straight. Looking back, I call it ‘divine intervention’. I never felt pressured into signing a contract and every aspect of the process that previously made me wary had been addressed to my satisfaction. A bond of mutual respect laid the foundation for the excellent working relationship we developed.
Rob Price has always been prompt with phone calls and emails – always courteous and patiently answering my plethora of questions. I required a lot of hand-holding. I asked a lot of questions and made a lot of requests. Rob accommodated those needs and honored my requests when feasible and possible. He was helpful beyond my expectations from beginning to end. But this is not the end. I am currently working on my second novel, Sarah, another crime thriller and sequel to my first book titled Sarai, in the Sarah Somer Series. By choice and with pride, it will again bear the publisher’s imprint as Gatekeeper Press.
We two sisters collaborated on our first self-published book, and when we were looking for a publisher, Gatekeeper Press popped up. We immediately resonated with the name as it has something to do with our book, ‘Ghost of a Shadow.’ We were also attracted to the 100% Royalties and Rights, as well as the aptly-priced packages for different book formats. We arranged to have a conference call with Rob Price, who was to become our Author Manager. He answered every single one of our questions, and we had many. He is the most courteous, kind, and helpful person one could hope to meet at our stage of the publishing process. There I was – first time author, based in Austria/Europe with the goal to publish my first graphic novel (a business graphic novel, cross genre it had to be) internationally – as ebook and in print. You might be able to empathize with my state of agony and dispair :).
Then – after yet another desperate round of research I got in touch with Joshua Tallent who then pointed me to gatekeeper press. The website looked like too good to be true. Guess, what? It is as good as they claim to be (rare in today’s market, isn’t it).
Throughout the whole process Rob Price has been always prompt with his always helpful replies – and I really have to use ‘always’ because it’s simply true. And his patience! I wonder where he takes it from, it seems never ending. As seem his working hours. I live and work about 6 hours ahead of Robs and yet, he always answered my emails almost immediately. I hope now that my book has launchend successfully – internationally (how cool is that!) – I hope he does get some more sleep :) Thank you Rob! I was drowning in a sea of snake oil salesman and liars when I first reached out to Rob Price. From our first phone call I knew this was guy was the real deal. I think we talked on the phone and emailed for six months before I gave Gatekeeper a a dime. When that day happened it was for some line editing help. There was no hard sale for more services. Rob made it clear what services to authors they offered and simply told me when and if I was ready they were there to help me. On the recommendation of an acquaintance, I investigated Gatekeeper Press and others to format and publish my second book. I based my decision on the content of their website and a personal interview with an author/manager. In the end, I believe I got the best of two worlds at Gatekeeper…a highly streamlined and efficient process along with a knowledgeable individual who would prove readily available when I had questions and didn’t want to deal with “system solutions”. Their price was fair and reasonable for the stress free services they delivered. Gatekeeper worked fast and accurately. The time to layout and format my book took half as long as I expected. I had a great experience with Gatekeeper Press. The process was easy. I came to gatekeeper primarily because I wanted a one-stop shop to publish both print and electronic versions, as well as to publish to both Amazon and iBooks. Plus, I wanted better royalties than I was getting elsewhere. The interior formatting turned out amazing, too.

I have published books in the past with several small independent houses. My experience with them has not been … salutary. I was most pleased (and relieved) to find Gatekeeper Press. From initial contact through publication and sales, it has been pleasant, responsive, and successful. They did what they promised, when they promised, and promptly fixed the few errors that occurred (mostly mine, not theirs.) My first e-book in a seven-book series, “Our Allies Have Become Our Enemies” (check it out on Amazon), was an Amazon Bestseller for the first month after launch. A large part of that was Gatekeeper. I can recommend them strongly and without reservation.
After I had finally completed my manuscript I immediately ran into a rather troubling problem when trying to pitch my idea to more traditional publishers. They were not open to, or even willing to listen to the idea of a musical-style novel. Undaunted by this I dove into researching various self-publishing companies. If you are reading this then you probably had a similar issue as I did and are equally overwhelmed by the numerous companies out there. I quickly realized, as I’m sure you have, that there are a large amount of shady players in this game. Some began hounding me from the moment I submitted my copyright, others tried to trap me into a contract the instant I contacted them and still others bizarrely seemed almost completely uninterested in my business. When I looked into Gatekeeper Press it seemed like the old cliché of “too good to be true.” Their prices were beyond competitive and every exchange was friendly, informative and with the head of the company no less. Maybe best of all they seemed genuinely excited to partner with me without ever pressuring me to rush into something I wasn’t comfortable with. In the end I decided to go with them and I couldn’t be more thrilled that I did. Their system allows for a lot of flexibility in the sense that you can do just about anything on your own, or purchase their numerous professional services, from covers, to editing and everything in between. At every stage they couldn’t have been easier to work with, as they clearly communicated every step in the process and answered every question I had promptly and honestly. I’d love to say that they finished everything on time, but truth be told I’m even happier to say they were early on delivering on every step of the process (sometimes weeks ahead of schedule) and didn’t proceed with the next step until I was completely satisfied. In the end I couldn’t have been prouder of the finished project as they took my dream and helped make it a reality which for a long time seemed impossible. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again and neither should you!

I have worked with other publishers on previous books. All were very frustrating experiences. Then I discovered Gatekeeper Press. Somehow, I found myself speaking on my landline phone with Mr. Tony Chellini. He answered each of my questions fully. That conversation was just like talking with an old friend. And, interestingly, he never tried to sell me anything….which was a refreshing surprise. Actually, his ‘no sale pitch’ sold me on them. I have had more than a dozen interactions[phone and email] with Sarah Spencer . She has always been readily available and helpful. GATEKEEPER PRESS is the ‘real deal’. Specifically, the cost was the lowest of more than a dozen other publishers that I contacted. The process was very streamlined. I could hardly believe my eyes when I opened my box of books. The Brooklyn Bred cover[I chose to have no jacket which are unnecessary and get shabby looking very quickly] was great. The 48 color photographs were outstandingly reproduced(and a few were 50 years old…actually two of me were taken in 1940 and 1942!). I simply do not know how Gatekeeper Press can do all that for the extremely low price that I paid. [Even after publication they were great. When my books were delivered….the box was entirely empty!! There were large messages on the box: “condition received”. I emailed Sarah Spencer with the bad news. She immediately wrote back: “WOW, that’s nuts! I’ll figure out what to do and get back to you.” And the next day, she arranged for me to receive another box of 20 books.] . A truly excellent publisher(and that’s an understatement).
I found Gatekeeper Press after having a not-so-great experience with another company. I wanted a company who would distribute my book through multiple online retailers. Rob Price was extremely efficient. We made several revisions, which went very smoothly, and he was able to seamlessly get my book listed for sale online in a timely fashion. All questions were answered amazingly fast. I’m very pleased with this company’s customer service, and I will definitely come here first when my next book is ready to be published. Highly recommend!
I had a great experience working with Gatekeeper Press. I was given solid, professional advice every step of the way, from proofreading to cover design to editing and tips for marketing the book. I worked mostly with Sarah, who was very patient and helpful. I went into the process with some strong ideas about the cover design, but as I went through the process with Gatekeeper staff — who worked with my many suggestions as best they could — and I wound up with a cover largely designed by their cover designer, which was far better than anything I’d imagined. My point is they were patient and took the time to work with my suggestions, so overall it was a good creative process that led to an excellent result. Also, as things progressed, I realized that in several of the stories (there are nine short stories in the book) there were some inconsistencies, overuse of some phrases — basically additional edits that needed to be made, fairly far into the process. Again, this was no problem, we went back and forth on the edits and everything worked out well. I never felt rushed to finish up any part of the process and move on, or that anyone I worked with was trying to get me to pay more money to Gatekeeper along the way. Everyone simply listened to what I wanted, gave me their input, and made the changes/edits I requested — and then assembled what I think are excellent, high quality paperback and electronic versions of the book. In sum I was very satisfied, and when I finish my current writing project I will no doubt call the great people at Gatekeeper press in hopes of working with them again.

Rob Price, Founder of Gatekeeper Press, recently completed publishing my book, Top Students, Top Parents. I was totally unaware of the difficulty formatting and editing my book would entail. Compared with the average library novels that merely consist of a pages of simple, indented paragraphs and a chapter heading here and there, it must have been his greatest nightmare. My book is an educational book that can be used as a textbook. It is not only filled with numerous indented paragraphs, titles and subtitles, but it also contains hundreds of bullets, different indentations, spaces, italics, quotations, columns of words and different margins. I’m certain he was sorry he took on my project, once he started; however, he stuck with it and produced a book that fills me with pride. His staff created covers that were so appealing that I couldn’t decide which one I liked best. If I were to describe Gatekeeper Press in one word, it would be patient. I found Gatekeeper Press via Google search. I chose Gatekeeper Press after looking at a few other sites; Gatekeeper Press’s website was user friendly and straight forward. I lucked out being assigned Kelly for the coordination; she responded within minutes to all my emails, but very patient when it took me days to respond to her emails. The whole coordination was done through email and Dropbox. I am still in disbelief on how easy this process was and that I have a published book! I am wholly satisfied with my experience at Gatekeeper Press. It was the unedited letters of Private Alonzo D. Bump, 77th New York State Volunteer Infantry that served during the Civil War. The editing was an extensive process due to his phonetic spelling whereby Bump frequently spelled the same word two to four different ways. I was frustrated at times with the process and readily expressed it to Kelly. She was patient and more than helpful. Now I am working on a second edition of a regimental history of the 77th New York Infantry [McKean’s Sunday School Boys go to War] and look forward to again working with Kelly and Gatekeeper Press.

On the recommendation of an acquaintance, I investigated Gatekeeper Press and others to format and publish my second book. I based my decision on the content of their website and a personal interview with an author/manager. In the end, I believe I got the best of two worlds at Gatekeeper…a highly streamlined and efficient process along with a knowledgeable individual who would prove readily available when I had questions and didn’t want to deal with “system solutions”. Their price was fair and reasonable for the stress free services they delivered. Gatekeeper worked fast and accurately. The time to layout and format my book took half as long as I expected. They helped me fine-tune the metadata to reach my desired audience. Recognizing that my target reader probably wore reading glasses, they set the font at a size that my customers would find appealing and painless to see. I was also attracted to their high payout on royalties and that they conveniently aggregate and account for them to simplify my life. Lastly, I liked Gatekeeper Press’ flexibility. I wrote both of my books under the banner of Corabella Press, a hybrid of my two grandchildren’s names. They were willing to let me us that name in lieu of theirs. In the end, I went with their name because I felt they deserved the recognition and I was proud to be associated with the name Gatekeeper Press. I think they are game-changer in their industry and worthy of future business.
As an author who has had more than one bad experience in the publishing industry, I was very skeptical about the services being offered by Gatekeeper Press. In fact, in my first exchange of emails with Rob Price, the president, I told him it was very unlikely a consultation would lead to an agreement. Well, now I am very pleased that I was directed to Gatekeeper Press and pleased with the product. Twenty years ago I started writing a book titled “The 8 Habits of a Highly Effective Safety Culture”. Like many other things “life happened” and it was put on the back burner. A promise made a year ago to an 89-year-old Maryknoll Priest has finally become a reality. “Early Morning Meditations” by Rev. Peter L. Chabot was in every guest room at Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center in Norwood, Ohio. Unfortunately, because it was out of print no one could buy copies to take home or share as gifts. Enter Gatekeeper Press. In my opinion, they are the best publishing company this side of the Mississippi, maybe in the entire United States! My first phone call with them included the CEO, plus an assigned Author Manager, Jessica Bushore. All my questions (and some I hadn’t even thought of) were answered. My first contact with Gatekeeper Press was with the CEO and Founder, Rob Price. His was the third company that I had called that morning to assess whether they could rescue the final stages of the publishing of my book. The previous company, which had worked on it, had created a problem that prevented the upload for final printing by IngramSpark. Mr. Price explained Gatekeeper Press’ normal timelines, what they could control in the distribution phase and that an expedited approach could potentially help us meet our planned launch date. His calm and factual approach was reassuring, and I signed on immediately. I was assigned Jennifer as my author manager and the calm, factual ‘can-do’ attitude continued. On the first day, I could not figure out how to upload my files on my dashboard. Jennifer calmly offered to get it done if I sent her the files. That shamed me into trying harder and I not only got it done, but learned a lot about all that was on the dashboard. After examination of the files, Jennifer was specific about what needed to be fixed and explained the advantages of each option. Finally, she uncovered the issue that had led to the upload problem at the previous company. Jennifer suggested that Gatekeeper Press could apply for a new ISBN number and fix the imprint problem, as well as perform the necessary changes to the cover, all at no additional cost. You can guess the result. Jennifer not only solved the problem but achieved the upload and distribution to their retailers ahead of schedule. I still don’t know how she convinced the retailers, who were of greatest interest to us, to get our book on their websites in a fraction of the time they usually require. My team thought that I must have used special knowhow to have achieved this incredible result. I enjoyed their compliments, but finally revealed my secret weapon: Gatekeeper Press.

You never know what you’re going to get from a publishing company. Of course, you can read stories about them online that may or may not give you a positive image of them. However, my experience with Gatekeeper Press has been nothing but fantastic. My experience with Gatekeeper Press has been very positive. The process from start to final product moved along smoothly. My work was more involved however, because I wanted twenty (20) illustrations to accompany the poetry. The illustrations are excellent. The editor of the text did a fine job. My account manager, Kelly Santaguida, has gone the extra mile with guiding me along as well as taking extra time to prepare The Epic of Gilgamesh: A Poetic Version for competition in the National Book Awards. I have already began work with Gatekeeper Press on another book of mine which will soon be ready for publication. The service provided is definitely worth the cost.
“Gatekeeper Press was the best publisher we could find. We wrote our first book, The Hunt, an action-packed middle grade fiction chapter book about leopards that are all the characters, for a wide children’s audience, and we wrote it as children. When we finished writing it, we went looking through all sorts of publishers on the web. We didn’t want to publish through a traditional publisher, and we were hesitant on which publisher to pick, because we wanted to retain copyright, full rights, and royalties through the whole project and time after publishing. Other companies didn’t disclose this information, and demanded that we sent the manuscript to them as the first step ‘for approval’. We didn’t want to do this, so we were so relieved when we found, chose, and went through the entire publishing process with Gatekeeper Press, our book now finally published…at last. We found Gatekeeper Press when searching through search engine as one of the first results for ‘can you publish a book as a child author’. We found Gatekeeper Press the most promising out of all the publishers we looked at. There was complete transparency and they listed exactly what you would be able to keep; and among it just so happened to be everything that we mentioned earlier: copyright, full rights, and royalties. You retain all of the rights to your manuscript and book, including all digital and print rights. Everything you keep you have full rights on and can use anywhere else after publishing with Gatekeeper Press. Your book is copyrighted when you publish with Gatekeeper Press, and you are also welcome to register your book with the Library of Congress through them. When you work with Gatekeeper Press, you get to also look at the Gatekeeper Press Knowledge Base, which is extremely helpful for quick and detailed answers. Everything else in Gatekeeper Press is awesome too. The best customer service ever seen. They respond to every email, and they never show hints of any aggravation. Our Author Manager was Sarah Duckworth, who had been promoted in our time of working with her to Chief of Staff. ;) In our eyes, she’s the best Author Manager the world has ever seen! We cannot say thank you enough to Sarah, Margarita Martinez, who was our very supportive editor, Angie Abella, who substituted for our Author Manager when she was out of office, and everyone else who participated on our project. I genuinely wonder how Sarah has so much patience, and I genuinely hope that we never drove her crazy with my perfectionism. :) Gatekeeper Press will not disappoint you; it is the best company to choose if you want to publish as a child or a child’s work, or if you want a fully hands-on process where you actually learn every step of the publishing process with the kindest people who are always there to help. Do not hesitate to contact Gatekeeper Press. You will not be disappointed. I think that all its services are reasonably priced, though if you don’t have a large budget then I would just give you a heads up that if you don’t know the many-step process of publishing and all its services, then you will probably think that you only need to do a few large services. What I am trying to say is that if you don’t know the process already, you will most likely be surprised that you may need to add some services to complete your book before publishing (if you can’t or don’t want to do those things yourself), which you would then add on, so think of that with your budget. Other than that, five stars and beyond! Gatekeeper Press is exactly what it says it is. Gatekeeper Press, truly is, where authors are family. At least, it definitely made us feel like it was! Can’t recommend it enough, to new and already published authors looking for a great self-publishing company! They don’t push on you at all, and even with emails and the process, you can take as long as you like on your end, which is opposite of what we saw with other publishers. They don’t rush you at all, either. When you finally publish your book and it is broadcast for distribution, it will be made available for sale “”virtually everywhere books are sold,”” which I think is way more than some other publishers’ reach in distribution. Keep in mind that your book will not be marketed by Gatekeeper Press unless you choose to add its marketing service, which is a bit pricey. Gatekeeper Press doesn’t promise you that your book will be a best-seller. Publishing at Gatekeeper Press is for everyone, regardless of what age and experience level, and whether you know the industry or not. But if you don’t know much about the industry, Gatekeeper Press is the best place to get started. You definitely learn a lot. It was pretty sad to learn that we would have to say goodbye to Sarah and the team after our project was finished. They added good support, service, and motivation to keep on writing! We are looking forward to publishing again sometime with Gatekeeper Press, which is called that way as it is supposed to symbolize the easy gateway to publishing. :) Before, we were afraid of publishing. I had an outstanding experience publishing my debut novel, thanks in large part to my brilliant author agent, Kelly Santaguida. I first learned of Gatekeeper Press when I went in search of a new publisher after I realized that my initial publisher was taking way too much of my royalties and I learned that there are publishers who allow the author to keep 100% (less a few small printing fees, etc). I found another publisher but unfortunately did not do my proper research and they were horrible and I was out $1600 in republishing fees. While on Ingram Spark one day I happened to wander onto their page of recommended self publishers. It is not a long list, which should tell you something. There are not many reputable self publishers out there, unfortunately. I checked out Gatekeeper’s site and I was excited to see so many positive reviews by fellow authors. I scheduled a call with the Director of Sales & Business Development, Tony Chellini, and immediately knew I had come to the right place. He worked out a fair deal to republish my book yet again after the 2nd publisher ruined it, and in addition I decided to publish my 3rd book with Gatekeeper. I was assigned Author Manager Jamie Anderson and she is amazing! Every step of the way Jamie has been there for me to answer questions, offer guidance and suggestions, or sometimes just to put my mind at ease. As far as the book, the editing process is fabulous (I never knew my grammar and punctuation were so bad!) and everything from layout to cover design was top notch. You can put my Gatekeeper books up to any traditionally published book in a brick and mortar store and you could not tell that mine is self published. That being said, you get what you pay for and quality does not come cheap. I most likely won’t earn back in royalties what I have invested in the process, so my advise is to publish your book for the love…not the money. And invest in a company you trust 100%. For me that will be Gatekeeper Press for as many books as I still have in me to write. I just recently submitted my fourth book to Gatekeeper and it is currently going through the editing process. I am so excited to see the finished product and I know it will be amazing!

I wrote my novel many, many years ago and tried to get it published in 2000. But I was rejected by 26 agents when I went the usual way. Deflated, I waited many more years to publish and this time I went for self-publishing. I believe in this book, the story of a neglected 14-year-old girl living with her alcoholic mother and her ninth grade math teacher who becomes her mentor. Sometimes, we are in need of a champion in our corner. It is a moving story about the power of love.
