At Gatekeeper Press, we often feel humbled by the inspiring journeys that lead to the publication of each book we help bring to life. Some stories resonate more deeply than others, and Gertrude Young’s journey will stay in our hearts forever. We are privileged to share the story of her first book, It’s A Miracle: Bob Was Dead Until…—a book that not only tells a remarkable tale but also embodies resilience, love, and a miracle that defied all odds.
When she published her debut book in November 2021, Gertrude was 93 years old. She faced extraordinary challenges that many could never have imagined. Her story began long before the ink hit the pages. The book emerged from a series of personal and spiritual miracles that led to her writing it in the first place.
“Thank you once again for making my mother’s book become a reality,” shares her daughter, Bobbi Moroney, whose unwavering support and dedication to her mother’s dream were a cornerstone in publishing the book. “It took a miracle in working on the book,” she reflects, noting how the heavy burdens of the pandemic lockdown complicated the process.
During the challenging days of COVID-19, Gertrude was confined to her assisted living facility in Pennsylvania for nearly two years. “It was a very trying time,” Bobbi recalls, remembering the toll it took on both her mother’s health and her emotional state. “I almost lost my mother during that time. My sister would cry on the phone, saying, ‘It’s communism here in PA,'” referring to the strict restrictions and the isolation they both felt. On top of that, Bobbi was dealing with the devastating loss of a co-worker and managing a demanding workload, including editing 20 broadcasters and building Bible programs. Despite the heavy load, Bobbi continued working tirelessly on her mother’s book with the help of Jennifer Clark, her Author Manager at Gatekeeper Press.
Jennifer was a lifeline during those dark days. “Jennifer was excellent in helping me to keep going. With the grace of God and Jennifer’s help, I made it through those one and a half years,” says Bobbi, grateful for the support that kept her focused on the light at the end of the tunnel—Gertrude’s book.
The book It’s a Miracle: Bob Was Dead Until serves as a testament to the unexplainable miracles that shaped the lives of Gertrude and her late husband, Bob Young. Bobbi reflects, “What was a miracle was that my father got to read his sympathy card.” This detail may be complex for many to believe, but it perfectly encapsulates the central theme of her mother’s life and the book’s content. While working on the book, Bobbi began to reflect on the events surrounding her parents’ lives and realized that both of her parents had died and come back to life—an extraordinary miracle in itself.
Sadly, Gertrude passed away on September 17, 2024, just two days before her 96th birthday. Yet, her book continues to sell, honoring her memory and inspiring others even after her passing. “Her book sold a day after her passing, and it’s still selling,” says Bobbi with pride and awe. Gertrude had a passion for sharing her story, and it’s clear that the legacy of her words lives on.
In a recent photo shared by Bobbi, Gertrude holds her first book with a radiant smile, her pride and joy evident. She was so excited about the accomplishment, and this joy continues to inspire those who read her book today. “She was so excited about her book and obituary,” Bobbi writes fondly, remembering her mother’s joy as she saw her dream come to life.
As Bobbi navigates the practical aspects of managing her mother’s book in the aftermath of her passing, she reaches out to us at Gatekeeper Press for guidance on what steps must be taken. “Please let me know what happens when an author passes away; what changes do I need to make or sign papers?” she inquired. At Gatekeeper Press, we ensure that authors’ legacies are respected, and we are here to support Bobbi through every step of the process, from royalty management to the transfer of rights, all while cherishing the impact Gertrude’s book continues to have on readers.
In closing, Bobbi offers this message of gratitude: “Thank you once again for making my mother’s book a reality. It has been a miracle to witness her dream come true. As we reflect on Gertrude’s extraordinary life and the powerful story she shared, we are reminded that miracles can happen, even in the most challenging times.
Gertrude’s book is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, the power of family, and the enduring love between a mother and daughter. We at Gatekeeper Press are honored to have been part of this incredible journey.
May Gertrude’s story continue to inspire, heal, and uplift those who read it, just as it did for her family.
Rest in Peace, Gertrude Young. Your miracle lives on.
